After having confessed my aversion towards Facebook in my recent post, I would like to reconsider my argument and give due credits to FB, as the above piece of art is what I stumbled upon while exploring a friend’s profile.
I find myself deeply impressed with this depiction of a Modern Gandhi. It makes me think… That if The Great Mahatma was born in today’s hep world, maybe he would have actually worn hoods and cool caps and rocked and rapped while telling us that we need to change, India needs to change. The picture above also brings a revelation to me, that perhaps we might be ignorant of such a Gandhi amidst us. One whom we hvnt taken seriously just because of his (or her) chichi attire and hippy lingo. So let’s just look around ourselves, we might not need to go over a hundred years back into history… only to find an inspiration!
Well, I am sure that there are countless politically motivated groups, who so proudly exhibit their pretentious patriotism and would be appalled by the picture above. But I for one would choose to admire the artist’s discerning eye. Otherwise, who in this materialistic world which can only see a 10 or a 100 on a currency note, can also spot the great Mahatma who has left behind a legacy of ideals for us…

While the art above would have been appealing on a sketch book. Same act (looks like a Playboy Bunny Cap on Mahatma Gandhi) on a Currency Note, that too on a person regarded as Father of Nation seems a bit derogatory to me..
@Neeraj – I would rather choose to see the other side… May be the picture depicts… that whatever our attire… however unbecoming social norms may find it… the real person inside us would eventually stand out… Watch the picture above for a while… The real Mahatma Gandhi starts to grow on you… the bunny cap turns out to be only petty talk…
I appreciate you views on the pic. I came across you blog while trying to find the source of this pic.
A nude pic from a painter will be an artistic piece n it shall be looked n perceived in the same sense, where as nude pic drawn for the porn shall be viewed in that sense. Its the same with this pic may be its your way to look at things, but not the one who’s intent is malice n to derogate, which is quite clear from the remarks made.
@Satya – Can’t agree with you more. But I think any attempt to either malice or derogate the image of Mahatma Gandhi in the heart of us millions can only be done by a fool or an innocent child. Both either insignificant or harmless.
