Was browsing my friend Maltesh’s blog and found an amusing Porsche commercial video. Certainly my best of this pack. In a few moments after watching the video, I was crazily youtubing and hooked to watching more and more car commercials on youtube. After running down about 50 odd ones… here are my Top 10 videos :)

Sudden rise in patriotism

Aug’06 - 17
Sep’06 - 25
Oct’06 - 34
Nov’06 - 52
Dec’06 - 36
Jan’07 - 123

Wondering what these figures are for? Hmm… These are the total number of searches containing the keyword “patriotism” searched in different search engines that led to my blog. The above given are the monthly search stats. All credit to the post REVIVING PATRIOTISM IN INDIA.

About 70% of the searches were for the search term “patriotism in india”, for which my blog post stands 2nd in Google. Ok guys me not on a boasting session here.

The interesting thing I noted was, that there was a mastodonic increase in the total number of searches in Jan…123!!! Anything rings for you? Yes… 26th of Jan! Most of the searches might have been by those who were to present a speech or an article observing the Republic Day. Hehe… I remember my school days when I used to net search on such topics to outscore over the other competitors, usually fellow speakers at elocution competitions.

But patriotism should come out of your own heart than through search results in Google. Having said this I am happy that I could convey my thoughts to a few more people. I hope that some politicians also have taken a few tips out of the post ;)

Today I had been to my college for the flag hoisting. Ironically my observation of an online spur in patriotism(lol!) dsnt really apply in this case. In a college strength of about 1400 students, I couldnt even count 25 of them :(. I can only hope that the rest did some good use of their time rather than catching some more sleep.

Anyways…

Wish you all a very Happy Republic Day!!!

K…K…K…KBC!!!

A quiz, a quiz master, contestants, audience, lights, camera and action! Yet you know that something is terribly missing here. Yes very evidently the all-time superstar Amitabh Bachchan. With due credit to what Shah Rukh Khan is, you still can’t help compare The Shehenshah of bollywood and The Badshah of hearts. Though a sorry comparison to get into as both belong to a completely different class.

The show starts off with a somewhat brassy song “Ek sawaal ka hai sawaal” that looks completely out of place for the epitome of Kaun Banega Crorepati. And I was left wondering with probably millions of others with what the hell they have done to the show. Thankfully the same show, the same set, the same haunting sound effects, the same Prasoon Sarkar waiting for a year to complete his game and a little nervous Shah Rukh Khan. Nothing to take away from him, you cannot be perfect at the get set go. But somehow both KBC and SRK seem to have lost the key of the lock and now freezing the audience and the answers.

So what do you miss in Shah Rukh Khan’s version of KBC? You certainly miss the aura of The Big B, Amitabhji’s pure hindi, the grip he has over you, the so passionate and comforting voice he has to the little squeaky voice of Shah Rukh Khan. Still nothing to take away from Shah Rukh, he is known for his presence of mind, smart one liners, wits that can amuse you, which I kinda found missing through the show. His jokes so silly and pre-planned that I couldn’t honour them with a laugh. His excessively excited gestures and a high amplitude voice gives an overly showy feeling to match the class and archetype of the show. He wasnt hosting the show but acting there. Lol! But I am sure, as the show progresses we will see the real Shah Rukh, the King Khan yet once more ruling the hearts of millions.

For my likes, I miss the showman, Amitabh Bachchan, such a professional quiz master. Certainly there is no replacement for him. But if I have put you off from applying to get into the show, nevertheless there is a 2 crore prize money waiting to be claimed and a Shah Rukh Khan massaging you if you are too tensed up and giving you a comfy hug if you decide to quit.

Dont forget to wear a helmet

After my recent small accident, I have tried to be a little more careful while riding. Small little things can make a big difference for you. Earlier I used to wear a helmet only where I knew there would be a police interceptor on patrol. There have been times when I have stopped right in front of the police vehicle, shamelessly unlocked my helmet off the hook of my bike and worn it. After a five minute ride I was back to being more vulnerable to a serious head injury in any road accident. Now my attitude surely has changed. Guys please do wear helmets while you are riding. Maybe this one could be a new year resolution for those who dont. I want you all to come back and read my blog always :). Ride safe!

Welcome 2007!

Family, friends, and Smriti Rao wishing you a Happy New Year! It cant get better than this :) Been home all time… simply watching the whole world partying and wallowing amidst confetti, lights, fireworks, smiles, happiness and promises for the new year!

This new year is certainly going to be a very happening one for me…hehe…not one of those astro predictions telling me this. But I can tell it from inside. New challenges await me… And to get the better of me I have a big list of new year resolutions. Every year I put some time to list them out (dont really care if I follow them or not). Mind you nothing in it that I would like to get public :).

A very Happy New Year to you all!

Determining popularity of your blog

So how do you know if your blog is getting popular??? :D

  • By the number of daily unique visitors your blog receives?
  • Number of hits?
  • Number of Returning visitors?
  • Avg. Length of visit of the visitors?
  • Or yea my fav the number of comments your blog receives?
  • May be even PR of your blog will do to be counted in as one determining factor.

While all above hold good… let me add one more in: Number of spams your blog receives daily… (Hehe… you can bet this one comes out of frustration).

I just logged in into my Spam Karma control panel in wordpress.. and whoa! in last 24 hours 98 spams caught!!! :P Missed a century by 2 :( So how popular is your blog?
It really sux to regularly take the time out to delete all the spams caught and yet scan for some genuine comments that might have gone down the line… I think I better install some math plugin or captcha image to avoid all those spams.. So how much can I trust your math dear commenters? ;) (Hehe dont worry it will be simple numerical addition…lol!)

Wow! www.aseemn.org now PR-5!

Had been at IIT Bombay until early this week for my project work. Got back, and got a pleasant surprise. I was checking my blog www.aseemn.org and noticed that the PR field of my Google toolbar for PR(Page Rank) was half filled! Wow! That means my blog is now a PR-5 site! Jumped from PR-0 to PR-5 in its very first update! :D

Some other sites of mine which I had optimised and managed some backlinks also shooted up in their Page Rank. But a PR-5 for my blog has been the most delightful! Well many other blog posts are PR-4 now and some of the more popular ones still got to make it little higher. May be by the next time Google updates!

Overall… Thank You Google!!! :)

Well for those you are not acquainted with the term Page Rank, then it’s a rank given to a page according to its importance on the net. Page Rank is scaled from 0 to 10. You can read more info here on Wikipedia - Google Page Rank.

Spending money…

Was googling sometime back… and stumbled upon these amazing lines by Milton Freidman :

There are four ways in which you can spend money. You can spend your own money on yourself. When you do that, why then you really watch out what you’re doing, and you try to get the most for your money. Then you can spend your own money on somebody else. For example, I buy a birthday present for someone. Well, then I’m not so careful about the content of the present, but I’m very careful about the cost. Then, I can spend somebody else’s money on myself. And if I spend somebody else’s money on myself, then I’m sure going to have a good lunch! Finally, I can spend somebody else’s money on somebody else. And if I spend somebody else’s money on somebody else, I’m not concerned about how much it is, and I’m not concerned about what I get. And that’s government.

At the end of these lines… I just pushed back myself, with a slight pressure on the cushion of my chair and inclining my head off its obvious position… i said to myself, “How True!”. Am sure you did the same!  :D

Ganpati Bappa Morya

Festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi and Diwali have always got Indians closer. Whether in times of the struggle for India’s Independence or today after the 7/11 Mumabi bomb blasts. India irrespective of religion, caste and region has shared a unified thought and realisation of joy.

It’s for these festivals that India today stands united proposing its belief in god and in the people of India.

I thought I should share this above picture with my blog readers here. This one that drew all my attention off the other news items on the front page of today’s Sunday Times, shows a Ganesh pandal being setup in Ahmedabad based on the theme of 7/11 Mumbai train blasts.

India I am proud of you… Happy Ganesh Chaturthi!!!
