My husband was given a RS health insurance policy of rs 27,000 per year in 2007 by a Standard charterd bank employee to save the tax benefits. We continued to pay for the years to come till 2009.In 2009 my husband was detected Cancer and was operated and was given chemo and radiation as required. After resuming from the shock when I contacted the company about the claim, they refused to pay by saying that this disease is not included in our policy. Is there any answer to it.Since I didnt know much about it I gave up thinking that who will fight. We have to take care of the patient's physical and mental health. But I still have grudges against them. Can any one help me.I have no idea how to go about it.

Hi Everyone,
I believe no credit Card company send a Health Insurance policy or some other policy without our consent. We should be beware of promotional calls. Because if you say any thing which is ambiguously when they offer any policy, they presume that you are interested in the policy. So, be firm that you don't need any thing which you feel you don't need. These marketing people are en cashing our sentiment or nature, not to say "no". After all they are also employees and want to survive in their job.

More over you can very well tell that you don't need the policy within 15 days after you receive the policy. Make sure you create the proof that you refused the policy, like send a mail, send a registered letter etc., I know it is a pain, but better than to face these kind of situations...

Hello All,
I happened to see some of the posts. What I understand is that they somehow pushed their other products when doing motor insurance and also another one is related to delay in cheque realization. I am not experienced with Sundaram, but what I understand is that the victims are also callous. First of all, why don't you contradict the cerdit card company. They will be in trouble. I did once against HDFC Bank card and I simply won without any hassle. Download "dispute form" , fill it and send to the CC company. I am sure you will win if you have not consented them explicitly.
Regarding cheque relaization, why are you thinking that way ? It can be easily found out when the cheque was placed before bank. Cheque lying with Sundaram can not be your fault.
Don't feel lost in the war -- you are the king. Always insist on sending written complaints systematically on speedpost instead of courier or phone calls.

Royal Sundaram is bad, though I am not sure if other insurance companies are any better.

In the case of Royal Sundaram, it is a potent mix of ignorance, incompetence and arrogance. Apparently, their underwriting department is under the illusion that good risk management (from the view point of the company, not the customer) includes being opaque if possible or ambiguous if not. And, customer service function is helpless. Try getting your simplest of queries answered clearly! Or even to meet any official with some minimal responsibilty/ authority to address your query! Guess, if you are a trapped customer of health insurance that is not portable (with or without accumulated benefits) you have few choices.

This is so despite IRDA's commendable efforts to date that keep these companies (other companies are no better) in line. Obviously, IRDA has a lot more work that is cut out for it to do.
